The Understanding Tumour-Host Interactions Cluster unites six projects – ARTURO, GLIOMATCH, HIT-GLIO, MULTIR, SPACETIME and THRIVE – under the EU Cancer Mission‘s Understanding Cancer objective to explore genetic and environmental factors in cancer development. An overview of the EU Cancer Mission clusters is available here.
We collaborate to contribute to Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, generating insights to advance prevention, detection, and treatment strategies while aligning research with public health policies. Watch our introductory video, developed by all projects and produced by MULTIR, for an overview.
The six projects collaborate across several topics defined by the European Commission. To facilitate collaboration, we have set up 6 working groups (WGs) each dedicated to one topic.
Data Management and Sharing
Lead: GLIOMATCH
The purpose of this WG is to harmonise data standards, foster data exchange, data validation, and potentially division of labour to achieve economy of scale. Of particular interest will be to discuss the implementation of the future UNCAN.eu research and data platform. This WG will work on:
Communication and Dissemination
Lead: MULTIR
The purpose of this WG is to develop a joint communication and dissemination strategy targeted to relevant stakeholders. This WG will work on:
Research and Innovation
Lead: SPACETIME
This WG focuses on reducing overlaps and harmonising research methods to enhance science and policy outcomes through collaboration on capacity building. Key areas include:
Addressing Inequalities
Lead: ARTURO / GLIOMATCH
This WG focuses on reducing inequalities in care, improving access, and addressing challenges in integrating project outcomes into national health systems. Key activities include:
Citizen Engagement
Lead: HIT-GLIO
This WG facilitates exchanges with citizens, including patients, to engage them and address their perspectives. Key activities include:
Annual Meetings and Events
Lead: THRIVE (year 1), HIT-GLIO (year 2)
The cluster projects will hold annual meetings to discuss shared challenges, identify synergies, and exchange best practices across the cluster’s strands. Key activities include:
January 2025 – 1st annual meeting of the U-THI-Clust
Barcelona, Spain (organised by the THRIVE project)
As part of its collaborative efforts, the U-THI-Clust will produce joint materials. These aim to raise awareness about the U-THI-Clust projects and their collective role, while contributing to unified messaging across projects and alignment with the EU Cancer Mission’s objectives.
